A couple of weeks ago I received a nice package on my doorstep. Origin food group, the makers of Frush Yogurt & Fruit Shakes sent me a cooler full of their shakes to review. Not only did they send enough for me to try out, but enough for a few of my co workers and family to try as well.
Along with the cooler they sent me an information packet to let me know what their company and their shakes were all about, and some other cool stuff to hand out to whoever I chose.
“Frush is a company who’s all natural offerings include shakes in strawberry, blueberry, peach and strawberry banana flavors available in 8.4 oz and 32 oz. sizes. Their mission is committed to developing healthy, affordable, tasty, and innovative foods that offer healthy alternatives for today’s fast paced lifestyles. They believe producing value-added products gives their customers the nutrition they need while fittings seamlessly into their lifestyles.”
The first flavor I tried was peach, which tasted great! I’m always down for anything peach flavored and this was right up my ally! Matt tasted the strawberry banana and was sold – he tried every flavor and loved both the taste and the texture! Being a yogurt smoothie, it is thicker than most but I sort of liked it better?! Other than Matt and me I took them to work and let a couple of coworkers try them, and took them to my parents for them and my siblings to try. My 13 year old sister is one of the pickiest eaters/drinkers in the world and she loves these. I think they are perfect for a snack for kids! The only complaints I heard were about the texture. Some people just weren’t into the thickness but I was a fan.
I know some of you may be interested in the health and nutrition value of the smoothies – obviously, right? Frush has 50% of your daily value of calcium and 9 grams of protein per 8.4 oz bottle. Not too bad right? The one thing that did bother me was the amount of sugar in the drinks. 33 grams is pretty high for me, especially with me trying to cut down lately.
Overall thoughts – I like the company, and what they stand for, and what they are trying to do. I think the shakes taste delicious, but with the sugar content it’s not something I would purchase regularly or keep in my house. I think these would be perfect for kids – especially the one’s who are totally against being healthy.
