Challenges and Boy Bands

Gooood Morning! I have a couple things to share so I figured I would pop in and say hello! This morning started off bright and early with my very first red cup of the season. Filled with hot tea, because I’m trying my best to cut back on coffee.

Yesterday’s workout is also share worthy. Check out that plank time. I’ve been doing Tina’s plank challenge and am seeing some awesome results. I could barely hold a one minute plank a few weeks ago, and now I’m up to 2 and 1/2?! I’m hoping on Friday I can hold a 3!

Speaking of challenges – I kind of left you guys hanging on Courtney’s yoga challenge. While I did incorporate yoga at least once a week, I was hoping for 3 times a week, and I totally bombed. Running took over more so than anything, but I’m working my way back into splitting things up evenly, so we will see!

Last but not least – my inner teeny bopper is ecstatic over two things. The entire Taylor Swift Red album, and this One Direction song:

Please tell me I’m not the only one still obsessing on boy bands at 25?! Even if I am, I’m totally embracing it up. Time to do the big girl thing and get some work done! Half way there!

Facts For Friday

We’re going to do things a little different today. I’m way to scatter brained at this moment to keep things organized so I figured I could just tell you guys some random facts about me and my life, mostly from the past 24 hours.

1. I made my first two ingredient pancake this morning (banana + egg), courtesy of Tina at Carrots N’ Cake. I kind of flopped a little, but I topped it with some almond butter and it was SO good!

2. Speaking of almond butter – I have become obsessed with Barney Butter lately. It has such a smooth texture, and a hint of sweetness that makes it delicious.

3. Matt and I had to sleep on only our mattress last night and my back is killing me more than usual. His parents are giving us their king size bed today and I am thrilled. Matt is twice my size, and we make each other way too uncomfortable in our queen bed so we are both very grateful to his parents! Did I mention our current mattress is like 20 years old?! And I wonder why I have back pain!

4. I shipped my very first Foodie Pen Pals package today and am totally excited for my pen pal to receive it! I love making other people happy and I hope she loves her foodie gifts!

po1

5. I’m getting frustrated having no friend interested in running, working out, or healthy living! I’d love a running buddy if anyone is local and up for it!

6. Krispy Kreme’s featured doughnut of the month is caramel apple flavored. It’s an apple flavored cake doughnut topped with caramel ice cream. I’ve been cutting back tremendously on sugar, but that is going to change as soon as I get my hands on one of these!

7. I made buffalo chicken salad for lunch. I combined 4 oz chicken with 1/2 tbsp of olive oil mayo, parm cheese, and buffalo sauce each. .I also added in one sandwich stuffer pickle that I chopped up. I used blue chips as a dipper, and this was good.

8. I actually woke up early enough to workout (a run on the treadmill) before work this morning, so because it is a half day and I’m actually not too busy, I’m going to take a nap!

TGIF, Y’all!

Scenes From The Long Weekend

Who’s happy to be back to work today? I wouldn’t say I’m thrilled I would just say I’m gratefulhow’s that work? Because lord knows I’d love to be snuggled up on the couch with Cruise on this gloomy day!

Anyways – I decided to take a complete break from the computer this weekend and just enjoy time with my favorite people! I’m at a computer Monday thru Friday 9-5 and usually a couple of hours when I get home, so a girl needs to check herself every now and then!

Remember how I lost my Ray Ban’s Friday? Well I tried to survive without them and couldn’t even make it a day so I bit the bullet and bought a new pair Saturday – and then Banana Republic called me Sunday to tell me they found them. Since I had already had my new pair bent to fit my face, and because I knew how bad my sister wanted a pair – I just gave them to her. Now I have a new pair, with a new warranty, and she got an early birthday present. ;) Win win!

Mini oreo mint blizzard from DQ to fuel our trip to the mall.

Sunday morning to breakfast (including some of that delicious pumpkin chocolate chip bread – which is already gone btw) to fuel this extremely hot and slow one mile run:

I about died. I just could not take the heat!

Sunday dinner at my parents. Something I’ve mentioned I’ll never give up. Pan fried squash, zucchini, potatoes with homemade cornbread and ham. OMG, can’t even tell you how delicious my Mama’s cooking is. I LOVE those potatoes!

Dessert after Sunday’s dinner. My sister’s first attempt at cupcakes – minus the one I smashed in my Dad’s face! Hate I didn’t get a picture because it was hilarious!

My first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season! Best coffee ever. The iced coffee I had on Saturday was the first coffee I’ve had in months, and because I didn’t drink much of it I didn’t notice the affect the caffeine had on me. Holy crap! I was bouncing off the walls after this thing. Good thing I took it to visit my best friend, and all we do is talk each other’s heads off anyway. I got another one this morning – I think next time I’ll get decaf.

I found this picture while I was visiting Anna and just had to share. This was before Matt and I were “officially dating.” It was New Year’s eve with Anna and her boyfriend in Charleston, SC. I love this, because I think it shows just how sweet he was on me, haha. ;) And I think it’s hilarious I’m downing a pomegranate margarita in my own little world. I’m going to try to type up the “how we met and how long it took for me to agree to go on a date with him” post sometime this week. We need to get it together for our wedding website anyways – and it’s a pretty good story!

This morning’s breakfast/lunch. I slept in pretty late since I didn’t have to be at work until 12pm so by the time I woke up and got myself ready I was more in the mood for an early lunch. A buffalo turkey sandwich on a whole wheat English muffin with buffalo sauce, light mayo, parm cheese, and pickles – along with some grapes, and pretzels to share with Cruise! Yum!

Time to get to work! Back to regularly scheduling blogging tomorrow! Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend!

RIP Ray-Bans & A Health Update

Today started out super fun. I got to sleep in, and then go shopping. I hit up JCrew and Banana Republic (my two favorite stores EVER) for their Labor Day Weekend Sales.

I left with 3 sweaters, 5 shirts, a pair of shorts, and a new dress for right at $200.

You would think it was my lucky day right? Wrong. I left the mall and went to the bank to withdraw some cash. When I was pulling out of the ATM, I went to pull down my Ray-Bans from the top of my head and guess what was missing? Yep, I lost my most beloved materialistic item. My beautiful tortoise shell wayfarers. So after I spent all of my spending money, I know have to pull some more money out of my ass (excuse the language) to buy a new pair. I can’t drive without sunglasses, and my cheap pair just aren’t the same.

Breakfast was a blueberry smoothie. 1 cup frozen bluebs, 1 cup almond milk, 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, 1 container Chobani blueberry Greek yogurt. Blend until smooth

Repping The Gamecocks win from last night, of course.

It’s 6pm and that smoothie is all I’ve eaten all day which is totally unlike me. After the tears I shed over my Ray-bans (No, I’m not kidding I cried like a freakin baby) I think I deserve some Taco Dog, but before I head to dinner – here’s an update on my doctor’s appointment.

When I made the appointment, I made it for a sharp chest pain I get on the left side quite often, that worsened with exercise once. One time was enough, so decided to take a short break from heavy exercise until I could see my doctor. I also wanted to discuss the back pain I have been having in my upper middle back with my doctor.

Here’s the deal with my chest pains: They did an EEG which came back perfectly normal. The doctor listened to my hear and asked me some questions. Since he could tell I was pretty serious about the pain (It feels like a finger prick repeatedly over the left side of my chest just FYI) he scheduled me to have an ECHO done next Wednesday, which is an sonogram of my heart for anyone who is as clueless as I am about this stuff. He thinks I have something called Mitral Valve Prolapse (click the link for a description). It is a benign condition, and nothing to really worry about, but he won’t know for sure until he does the ECHO. He did give me the okay to run as much as I want, and do all the cardio I want. He encouraged it actually.

Now to the back pain. I have had a trigger point on my neck for a couple years now that refuses to go away and now have a new one next to my spine. He gave me valium to take as a muscle relaxer at night (Yes, a muscle relaxer – it’s not just a nerve pill haha) and has restricted me from any weight lifting, or any mat work that should affect my back. If it is not better with medicine and abstaining from specific strength training, I have to go back in a few weeks.

What does all this mean for bootcamp and other workouts? It definitely means cardio will be my main form of exercising – a lot of running and walking – and even some yoga. I’m still going to follow Tina’s plan as best as possible because I love it so much, but will definitely not be able to keep up with all of it. I will for sure keep everyone updated!

Happy Weekend! Smile

What’s your Kryptonite?

As soon as I hit publish on this post I am closing the computer and shutting down for the night. It was definitely one of those days at the office where I didn’t take my eyes off of the computer, and my head is cursing me right now. But before I knock out, let’s recap a little.

Breakfast was more waffles. Are you even surprised? They were quick and easy and just what I needed because I woke up starving this morning!

Lunch was another one of these tuna salads. It will also be the same tomorrow. I’m sparing you photos, because it’s nothing you haven’t seen before but I promise you this is the best tuna salad, EVER.

Today’s workout incorporated something I’ve been seriously missing the past month or so. Yoga. I’m still following Tina’s bootcamp plan, but have been altering it a little the past week to tone it down some before I go to the doctor tomorrow. I don’t want to over do it before I get the okay from him. Like I was saying, even though I have been following her bootcamp, I knew my body was desperate for some yoga so today I brought out an oldie but a goodie.

Jillian Michael’s Yoga Meltdown does the trick every time. It stretches me out and tones while burning some calories at the same time. I’m sure my body will be very grateful tomorrow.

Dinner was a bowl of brown rice, chicken, and broccoli. After I took the first picture I drizzled it with some low sodium soy sauce and sprinkle of parmesan cheese then gave it all a little stir.

For dessert, after like every single meal today, I enjoy some white chocolate pretzels.

broc4

I picked these up on a hungry lunch time grocery store trip today. These things are freakin’ delicious – too delicious. Luckily, Matt likes them too – and they are close to being gone so they won’t be in my house to tempt me much longer. Totally my new kryptonite!

What’s your kryptonite? Any foods you just can’t say no to?

Should I or Shouldn’t I Crossfit?

Good afternoon! It’s back to work for my today, so I’m blogging from my desk on my lunch break! Not too much going on over here but, let’s start with breakfast.

Two honey wheat Eggo waffles topped with sugar free syrup, banana slices, and chia seeds. A go to for me that you’ll probably see on the blog more than you wish so I didn’t snap a photo. Sorry I’m not sorry.

I’ve been working a way knocking stuff out that I missed from vacation since 9am this morning. Hitting my send/receive button on outlook was pretty terrifying, but it didn’t take long to go through – thankfully! I also may have taken a ten minute or so break to catch up on some blog reading and snack.

A handful of mixed nuts and a handful of fresh cherries. Yum.

Although I had a serious groove going this morning, I welcomed a quick lunch break. Just a simple turkey sandwich with laughing cow swiss cheese, mustard, and spinach. Easy and delicious.

While I was on my lunch break, I started skimming my personal email and came across this living social deal of the day:

Should I or Shouldn’t I? I’m so torn! Let me know your thoughts!
